Youth Representative~Katie Campbell, KE8LQR
Katie is the YLRL newly-appointed Youth Representative. She became interested in amateur radio through family and school. When the school resource officer started an amateur radio club, she joined and soon received her technician license at age ten. At age 11, she and her mother passed their general licenses at Hamvention 2019. In June of 2019, she became an Amateur Extra. Congratulations, Katie.
2019 was also the year when she experienced the thrill of HF when she attended her first ARRL Field Day. At that Field Day, she was introduced to the many aspects of ham radio including CW, digital modes, etc. from many amateur operators.
Currently, Katie is interested in chasing DX and learning morse code. She has been taking classes from the Long Island CW Club since March of 2020 and now teaches the kids intermediate and advanced classes. She is president and QSL manager of her school club K8LPS, the Columbiana Clippers. The Clippers participate in ARRL’s School Round-Ups and are ranked 5th in the nation and 1st in Ohio in the Middle School Category. Their mission is training and equipping youth for a life long love of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Katie also belongs to YACHT, Young Amateur Communication Ham Team.
Now if that’s not enough, Katie is excited about getting involved with the YLRL. We are indeed fortunate and welcome Katie to our organization.
