District 10 Representative~Roxanne Baxter, AA7RX

Attending a post-apocalyptic communications presentation at DragonCon 2010 may seem like a strange way to enter the world of ham radio, but it’s perfectly “on brand” for Roxanne Baxter. Within a month, she passed her Technician exam, and within a year, she earned her General and Amateur Extra licenses. After a lot of deliberation, she finally settled on AA7RX as her vanity callsign. (Roxanne grew up in Oregon and plans to return there after retirement.)

Life got in the way, so she didn’t get on the air until October 2013. A year and a half later, she earned DXCC. In 2016, she received a callsign, DA1RX, for her new (temporary) home in Germany, but her location at the bottom of a steep valley severely limited her ability to operate, and she set aside her radio equipment.

Since returning to Nebraska in 2022, she has maintained her license, but she has not yet returned to the airwaves. Her current plans are to set up her DX-friendly station at home while using her pink RV camper to do Parks on the Air.

District 10 Consists of North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, Kansas & Missouri

Where Can You Find District 10 YLs?.....

From The Mall of America and the 10,000 lakes in Minnesota, the birthplace of Kool-Aid in Nebraska, corn-corn-corn fields of lowa, the Mile High City of Colorado and America’s Mountain, Dorothy and Toto of the Wizard of Oz fame in Kansas, the Gateway Arch of Missouri, the Badlands of North Dakota and Mt Rushmore of South Dakota, each of these eight states boost many natural treasures, but only five states boost the best treasures of all … 24 Young Ladies. Unfortunately, there are no YLRL members in Nebraska and the Dakotas.

Although we are a small group, there is much diversification. Some enjoy the solitude of single operating, POTA, SOTA, etc. Some like emergency communications, some like contesting, some like special events, some like collecting QSL cards; but, the one thing we have in common is being of part of the estimated 15% of licensed female amateur radio operators. You might make contact with us on the rugged peaks of the Rocky Mountains, on Echolink, HamNation, or the YL System.

We are comprised of four technicians, six generals, one advanced and 13 extras and we possess a combined total of 593 years (nearly six decades) of amateur radio experience. We are proud that three YLs have been licensed for 50 years or more: Kay WAOWOF in 1969, Judy KOUH in 1970 and Erika KODD in 1971.
